[Dharma – Yijin]
Passing through the river withdedication, he imparts Shaolin in two direction.
For strength, one shall follow Yijinand Xisue. For knowledge, one shall study the Heart Sutra.
Form the inner fist with theheritage, stretch the arhat palm with the chakra.
From it Sanfeng built Taiji, protectthe people with strength and mercy.
Bodhidharma, the first master of theZen.
He’d been facing the wall for nineyears at Shaolin Temple of Mt. Song, earning the title of “Wall-Seeing Brahmin”.
It’s said that he left Yijin Jing and Xisue Jing in the stone caverns,
which made him the creator of 72Shaolin Skills.
“Bodhi” means “Awakening” inSanskrit,
and so “Bodhidharma” means “Awakeningof Laws” in Sanskrit.

Legends
In 470, Bodhidharma arrived at thenowadays Guanzhou in China by sea.
Later, he went to Gaozuo Temple inNanjing. Legend says that Bodhidharma
listened the sermons from the hostShenguang, but he disagreed with the idea and shook his head.
Shenguang felt awkward, and followedBodhidhamrma to Mt. Shaoshi,
cutting off his own arm for thetruth and finally becoming the Zen Master Huike.
(*According to history, the one whocut off his arm should be Tanlin, the other apprentice.)
Legend says that Bodhidharma left asandal in the coffin as the recognition to Huike
and returned to the west in barefoot alone.
Therefore, the folk’s imaginationtowards Bodhidharma is mostly presented him holding a single sandal
in scriptures and paintings.
