In today’s modern society, where machine production dominates,
cold industrial products and rigid, sterile lines have made excess meaningless.
That’s why we insist:
the most important parts must be crafted by hand.
Although every piece may bear subtle marks of craftsmanship,
these are the irreplaceable signs of true artisan spirit.
Artisan hand-cast miniature metalwork
Artisan hand-painted finishes
Artisan hand-polished and ground watch cases
To preserve the warmth of handmade artistry,
each piece will feature slight variations in brushwork—
and that is the true value of handcrafted creations.
This piece is the final installment of the "Three Friends of Winter" collection—Pine, Bamboo, and Plum—following “Blooming Plum with Umbrella” and “Moonlit Bonsai Pine.” It is also the most challenging of the series.
Crafted entirely by hand by master artisans in Tainan, the watch case features a complex miniature painting technique combined with a “Temari ball” nestled among bamboo, executed through precision brass casting.
The production process involves time-intensive microscopic painting, fully done by hand using ultra-fine brushes by award-winning Taiwanese painting artisan, Master Chih-Kai.
Within the limited dial space, gradient color layering is achieved to create a deeply immersive texture.
The 3D design, once again, is by Taiwan’s veteran modeling artist Master Jia Longxi, with over 30 years of experience, challenging the limits of micro-casting to achieve a profound sense of depth within just 3mm of dial space.
This work employs micro-painting techniques, where every detail is meticulously painted with fine brush tips. Viewed under a microscope, every color variation and gradient is clear, so production capacity is naturally limited—thank you for your understanding.
The umbrella face of the dial is paired with a plum blossom motif.
For those familiar with Japanese culture, this is a “Janome Umbrella” (snake-eye umbrella), combining the Chinese plum blossom with the Japanese umbrella, weaving together many layered stories.
This reflects a unique era that only Taiwan has experienced, where European, Chinese, and Japanese clothing and culture coexisted simultaneously on this land—a part of Taiwan’s distinctive past that has simply been forgotten.
Tainan Xin Hui Watchmaking was founded in 1955.
After years in the watch industry, it formally established its factory in 1983.
Today, their collaborating CNC craftsman is 72 years old, and their polishing craftsman is 68 years old. Their skills, honed through time, remain passionate as they rise to each challenge.
We have always believed that the true value of things lies in the accumulation of intangible cultural heritage, with storytelling and tradition adding a lasting richness.
Behind the scenes are dozens of professionals and more than five factories, all contributing their expertise and effort.
These watch cases, developed by the old Tainan factory over a decade ago, faded from public attention as trends changed. But in our eyes, they are irreplaceable treasures.
Cultural accumulation and heritage have always been at the heart of Bards Whisper’s values.
That’s why we invested multiple times the usual cost, combining 3D technology with the most traditional handcrafting processes to redesign these watches to high-end standards.
Vintage watch cases once forgotten in the factory have been reborn through our dedication.
Bards Whisper’s micro-casting technique, developed over many years, now takes on an even greater challenge through these vintage cases.
In the world of miniature craftsmanship, smaller cases mean more demanding technical challenges.
This time, we broke traditional watchmaking conventions by redesigning the internal movement structure to allow for even more space for detailed artistic expression.
"Cities change color with time; old friends revisit familiar places full of poetry.
The ghostly tears of the Janome umbrella fall; old bottles, new wine, plum blossoms under the umbrella."
