Q1: What is 925 Sterling Silver?
A:
925 Sterling Silver refers tosilverwares containing 92.5% by weight of silver.
The materials containing 925‰ ofsilver and 75‰ of other metals meets the international criterion for sterlingsilver. 925 indicate the fineness, which is the highest for silverwares just as999 for the fineness of gold.
As 100% of sterling silver will betoo soft, other metals are required to increase the hardness for making andsculpturing silver ornaments or jewelry inlaying.
The U.S. National Bureau ofStandards determines that only those containing more than 92.5% of silver canbe seen as sterling silver. 925 silver is now the most widely utilized standardfor silverwares.
Q2: Does 925 sterling silver becomeblack in the long run or get rusty? Can I wear it while I’m taking showers?
A:
If you do not process or keep itwell after wearing it, it is highly possible that it turns black. It does not,however, get rusty.
It can contact with water, but youcannot take it to hot spring (silver ornaments + hot spring = oxidization andturning black. Silverwares turn black after contacting with warm water orsulfides under chemical reactions.
